Cory Clark
Patterns project #3
For this project I first started by drawing out multiple
ideas until I desired on the current idea. I scanned the sketch and used Photoshop
to clean it up. I than placed it into illustrator and using the pen tool I traced
the drawing and added some details. Using image trace i began taking pictures
off the internet of various things and live tracing them and adding them to my swatches.
(this is not recommended) Having collected my desired textures and patterns I started
the next step.
Adding color to my illustration was one of the easier things
I faced. I chose a semi neutral pallet with a mixture of red, blue, green
and orange colors in certain areas. These are complimentary colors and add a
nice effect to the drawing. I also gave a light blue tint to the whole drawing
to help alleviate some of the overwhelming gray. Once the colors where added I went
in and placed the swatches where I wanted them but soon discovered that having
such large patterns was causing the program to become slow and unstable so I
had to
rasterize and image trace certain portions to remove that effect. I then
switched to simply using the transparency tool with un-vectorized images to
complete the illustration.edit-
list of patterns.

Great job with the line work and swatch layout. I'm not sure if it was intended, but the lower body starts to get lost in the background.
ReplyDeleteYou line work is great. I like the background and it's perspective in relation to your image. Great use of the touches of color and your patterns are well placed and give the drawing life. Very cool.
ReplyDeleteI struggled with the program slowing down and freezing up on me a lot too, so i get that. Nice work though, it looks almost like a page out of a comic book!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea. I also like how you used the patterns in this design. I also agree that some parts of the characters are getting a little lost on the background.
ReplyDeletei really dig the way your lines on the figure came out, it is a cool as hell image and i like it a lot.
ReplyDeleteI like the earthy tones on the boots and the texture of the wings.
ReplyDeletei like the pattern you used in the wings. looks like it could be a comic book, the background is very gotham city like. good choice in the color layouts.
ReplyDeleteI really like the wings and the way you selectively used color. Very morose mood, well done.
