In order to make my word I first wrote it out using a regular font with the text tool. Then using the Object > Expand command I manipulated the anchor points to start to change the shape and size of the text. I rearranged the individual letters to make it look more like a camel, using a Google image of a camel as a reference. I started to erase away certain sections to create the toes and make the humps irregular, when I started using the eraser tool I had it on the smallest size stroke, as I worked I noticed the bits that were being missed and actually liked the way it looked, it made me think of the rough sand and movement you might associate with a camel, so I left these bits as a part of the final piece.
When I started this project I had sketched several different words and phrases in my sketchbook. The camel was just something I kept coming back to. The main idea was using the "M" to create the two humps on the camel’s back, it took some trial and error rearranging the other letters to make the whole thing come together. Overall I think the completed project is successful.

I dig your camel. Turning the M into humps was pretty clever. The sketchiness definitely works for this image.

ReplyDeleteI like the look you achieved by with the eraser tool, it is the same effect as using a brush
ReplyDeleteI think this is so so so well done. Warping the text to create the visual image of a camel is exactly what Malena was asking for I believe- as far as composition goes. You made the humps, the feet, and the head very nicely- it looks like a lot of time and planning went into this!
ReplyDeleteElyse,
ReplyDeleteYour process is a good one for our first project. The overall effect of the image is great. I don't have much I would change about this, just wondering if you did any different color ways and why you choose black and white as your final image.
Great design! You know what you're doing on Illustrator! Unlike me..
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Fabulous! You really succeeded here. I raise my glass to you. :D
ReplyDeleteIt's a very nicely done design. I'm not sure what I would change here. Perhaps would try to use different colors. Still, it's not the fact it would improve the design.
ReplyDeleteThis is really well done. maybe some sand dunes in the background or a different color scheme on the camel.
