Exercise 4: Trace Found Logos

For this exercise, you will need the 20 logos that you copied by hand for Homework #2.

1. Scan your 20 logos drawing.
Tips For Scanning Your black and white line Drawing:
  • Place your drawing face-down on the bed of the scanner.
  • Open Image Capture, or some other scanning software, but don't click on scan right away. Open the advanced scanning options and make a preview scan.
  • The software will create a box around what it thinks the border of your scan need to be. Click and drag the sides of the box if you don't like the automatic borders.
  • Select the appropriate kind of image, in this case it will be black and white.
  • Set the resolution to about 300 dpi
  • Change the selection for Save To to your flash drive or another spot that you'd like to save to.
  • Name your file
  • Select Tiff as the image type and then press scan
Tips for Refining Your Scan
  • Bring your scan into Photoshop to refine it
  • Use Levels or Curves to refine your image
  • Don't use brightness/contrast!
  • Once you're done refining, save it as a jpeg or photoshop file.
Instructions for Tracing:
After you finish refining your scan, place the image onto your artboard as a tracing template. You will need to trace each of these 20 logos.
Please use the tablet and stylus for the first 5 logos. After that, you are welcome to use any illustrator painting and drawing tools except DO NOT USE LIVE TRACE, OR THE TYPE TOOL, IF THERE IS TEXT, PLEASE TRACE IT BY HAND!

After you finish tracing all 20 logos, please save the original illustrator file, and also export this work as a jpeg. Please submit both files to Canvas, so I can give you full credit for your work.
